Objective of course

Necessary to give the desired mechanical properties to steel annealing, tempering and hardening processes to understand and apply these methods, obtained after Hardening the material to test its qualities and the appropriate heat treatment method of decision-making.

Steel structure. Tempering of steel. Hardening. Heat treatment applied to steel.

Course Contents

Conversion and crystal structures of iron, Fe-C equilibrium diagram, the heating and cooling. Perlit, bainite, martensite formation, residual austenite, TTT diagram. Hardening heat treatment, atmosphere and speed of heating, hardening temperature, hold time and quenching environment. Hardenability, the factors affecting hardenability, Jominy test. Annealing and variations (normalization, re-crystallization, Stress relief, grain reduction, smoothing, spheroidizing annealing) Surface hardening processes
