Objective of the Course

To give the students basic knowledge about internal combustion engines and othe heat engines, to introduce to structural elements and operational principles and cycles of the engines, to give fundamental concepts on the engine fuels and combustion, exhaust emissions and control, and prospects of the modern engine development.

Course Contents

Historical perspective of engines, comparison of heat engines. General construction, dynamics and operational principles of engines. Engine thermodynamics, theoretical engine cycles, mean pressure, power, efficiency and fuel consumption concepts in engines. Preliminary design an selection of engines. Actual and alternative engine fuels, combustion, emissions and exhaust control in engines.
