He was born in 1967, Sanliurfa, Turkey. He completed his
primary education in 1978 and his secondary education in 1981,
Sanliurfa, Turkey. He graduated from Vocational High School for Industry in 1984 and
attended to Electrical Programme of
Higher Vocational School of
Sanliurfa at the University of
Dicle
from 1984 to 1985, Sanliurfa, Turkey.
He received his Bachelor’s degree from Geological
Engineering Department, Engineering Faculty, Mediterranean University, 1991,
Isparta,
Turkey, and his Master of Science degree from Geological Engineering
Department of Suleyman
Demirel University, 1995,
Isparta,
Turkey, and his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Environmental
Geology Division of Geological Engineering Department from the
Cukurova
University, 2000,
Adana, Turkey, and finally his
Postdoctoral degree from Geological Engineering Department at METU,
2007, Ankara, Turkey. From 1991 to 1993, he worked as a geological engineer for the
Geotechnical Services and Groundwaters Section of the 16th
District Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI) in
Atatürk Dam and Sanliurfa Tunnels of GAP
Project, Sanliurfa,
Turkey. He served as a member of the Sanliurfa
Inspection Board for Unsanitary Establishments from 1995 to 1999. He is a member of the Turkish Chamber of Geological
Engineers (JMO), The Turkish National Committee of International
Association for Engineering Geology and The Environment (IAEG), The
Turkish Foundation for Combating Soil Erosion for Reforestation and
the Protection of Natural Habitats (TEMA), The
Turkish National Committee of International Solid Waste Association (ISWA),
International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH), The
Turkish National Committee of International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM),
and The Turkish Drilling Association.
He
was awarded “ERGUVANLI Engineering Geology Award” of 2000 and 2005 for
his doctorate thesis and paper, respectively, his thesis’s topic of
which is “Geological Site Selection for Hazardous Waste in
Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) Area” and his paper’s topic of
which is “Site selection for hazardous wastes: A case study from the
GAP area, Turkey” published in journal of Engineering Geology,
by the Turkish National Committee of International Association for
Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG). He
was granted with a "National Postdoctoral Research Scholarship" for
his postdoctoral study, for six months period, by the Scientific &
Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) in 2007. He
has been serving as adviser or panelist in the Environmental,
Atmospheric, Earth and Marine Sciences Research Grant Group (ÇAYDAG)
of the TUBITAK at the evaluation stages of proposals of national
and international research projects since 2005. He is the author or coauthor in a lot of scientific
and technical papers and he has led many projects as the principal
researcher, or researcher. His principal research interests are in the areas of
environmental geology and environmental geotechnics,
site selection for landfills, and groundwater contamination.
At present, he is an associate professor in
Environmental Engineering Department, Engineering Faculty,
Harran
University. He has
been teaching the courses in soil mechanics, hydrology,
environmental geology, material science, municipal solid wastes and
hazardous wastes at the undergraduate level since 1993, and recovery
techniques for municipal solid wastes and advanced environmental
geology at the graduate level since 2003.
